medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I doubt everyone knew the Gelasius texts, let alone heeded them. Once
things got more legalistic, Rome developed forms for all sorts of
standard permissions & absolutions. The recent work on the papal
penitentiary by Ludwig Schmugge & co. shows how routine language became
for usual items of business.
