Congratulations to Ealing for raising this issue - surely an essential
ingredient in the whole Supplier Selection process.
I fear that local auditors would be appalled at current Supplier Selection
practice where no measurable objective monitoring is taking place.
What Ealing are starting to look at is actually the subject of a complete
module within smartsm from Bridgeall Libraries (www.bridgeallsmartsm.com) .
The Supplier Selection Module provides for the provision of a very detailed
and very local specification (particularly for non fiction), which seeks to
match demand with supply.
Having enabled the production of a powerful demand led specification,
smartsm then produces monthly update reports to monitor supply over the
period of the contract and notes, in exact terms, the extent of any
shortfall in supply, so that problems can be resolved quickly.
Finally smartsm also produces detailed performance monitoring reports to
identify current loan statistics, shelf coverage etc OF ALL SUPPLIER SLECTED
MATERIAL. You can make comparisons between supply over different contracts
or between different suppliers.
It is my opinion that suppliers too will welcome the sort of detailed
feedback available from smartsm since this will provide them with
information never previously available and will help them improve over time.
smartsm is designed to provide these feedback reports to suppliers too, if
No obligation, on-line demonstrations of the complete smartsm package
(including of course the Supplier Selection module), are available by
contacting John McGill ([log in to unmask]).
