Following a recent GMHeLP Policies Group meeting I was asked to liaise
with our Truts's Information Security Officer to obtain a form of
wording to add to library registration forms which would (a) allow us to
share personal information with other departments and organisation when
chasing up departed members of staff for non-returned items without (b)
breaching any data protection legislation. I was asked to share the
results with other Greater Manchester librarians but it may be that
other library managers oustide GM would be interested in the advice. Our
form now reads:
"By signing this application form you agree to adhere to the Library's
rule sand regulations. Your information is processed in accordance with
the Data Protection Act 1998. It is likely that your information will be
shared with the Trust's Finance Department and Institutes of Higher
education, if and when applicable. Your information may also be shared
with other NHS libraries in order to recover library property borrowed
from this service."
