Internet Archaeology is pleased to announce the publication of
"Appropriate Levels of Detail in 3-D Visualisation: the House of the
Surgeon, Pompeii" by Phil Murgatroyd in issue 23 of Internet Archaeology
http://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue23/murgatroyd_index.html
The use of three-dimensional computer models in archaeological projects is a
relatively new but rapidly growing area, both as a means of presenting
research to the public and also as an aid to interpretation. This work uses
the House of the Surgeon in Pompeii as a case study and seeks to illustrate
the most effective ways to display information to a range of audiences. In
using the flexibility of computer modelling techniques it seeks to show that
the levels of detail in a 3-D computer model can be tailored to individual
circumstances to produce the most effective result.
This article will be of interest to anyone working in the field of
visualisation and presentation of archaeological information, Roman domestic
architecture, the archaeology of Pompeii and Herculaneum, 3-D modelling and
the use of residential and commercial space in a Roman context.
Best wishes,
Judith
