This is totally bizarre. The main reason for prescribing generically
is to save the NHS money, as far as I can see. Why does the Drug
Tariff reimburse at a rate higher than the cheapest proprietary
preparation?
And how stable are these prices? We are currently changing all our
patients from generic isosorbide mononitrate m/r to Xismox, at the
behest of our Prescribing Adviser. (Against my better judgement, but
you have to show willing sometimes and it seems harmless enough.) But
will we have to change them all back if the price of Xismox goes up?
