Dear Colleagues,
Sorry for yet again a call for the 33rd IGC in Oslo: abstract deadline
is the 29th of February!
It is not to late to register for Session STT-08 Numerical and
analogue modelling of deformation - from the micro- to the crustal scale
Convenors: Paul D. Bons, Sudipta Sengupta, Hemin Koyi
Keynote speaker: Daniel Koehn, Mainz, Germany, on modelling of
mylonites and their use as in-situ palaeo-stress gauges
Theme of the session:
Modelling is an indispensable tool in the study of rock deformation,
where direct observations or physical experiments on rocks are
hampered by the time and length scales of geological deformation
processes. Recent years have seen the application of many new methods
and materials (EBSD, (synchrotron) tomography, chocolate, yeast,
phase-field modelling, particle codes, etc.). This session will bring
together modellers to present the latest approaches and results in
modelling and their application to rock deformation.
Special focus will be on the hierarchical nature in length and time
scales of rock deformation (from individual dislocations to orogens)
and the integration of different methods and techniques (numerical
modelling, analogue experiments, field geology, geophysics, petrology,
materials science, etc.).
We invite contributions on all types of modelling (experimental,
numerical), especially those dealing with innovative modelling
techniques or new applications, as well those that integrate different
methods or different length and time scales in their models.
