I think DSA will (sometimes) pay for the MI test because it
recommends which colour filter/specs should be
purchased....rather like a needs assessment.
I agree this is often wrapped up with an initial diagnosis.
If the costs were separated, I suspect more LAs would pay
for the filters, but not the testing itself from DSA.
The provision of colour filters can make a substantial
difference to reading speed, concentration, length of time
student can read at any one time, elimination/reduction of
visual disturbances, so it is a REAL benefit to many
students, and I would support a professional assessment of
both the condition and "equipment" needed to alleviate the
difficulties.
Who should pay for what is another question......???
