I have been asked by Victoria Arranz to provide an article for the ELRA newsletter on latest developments in the Human Language Technologies in the UK.
I don't feel confident to be able to write something that would cover all of the relevant activities, although I could contribute some things about CLARIN and the e-Science initiatives. Would anyone else be interested in taking on this task, or contributing some text for the article?
I'm afraid the deadline for this is rather short - 10th March.
Here is what she is asking for:
"The rather general topic we envisaged for this issue was that of
*European National Programmes in the field of HLT*. We would like to
have articles covering either general programmes launched by government
and/or private institutions (like the different programmes within IST,
but at a UK level) or details on the different R&D projects (whatever
their financing) somehow oriented to HLT (whether oriented to technology
development, resource creation, standardisation, resource storage,
etc.). The idea is to offer an idea on the activities taking place in
the UK, at least regarding those you're familiar with.
As you can see, the topic is rather flexible since it allows you to
focus on different types of survey or review, depending on whether you
would rather work on the programme description or on the specific
projects associated to some of these programmes.
Regarding the length of the article, it is generally 1-2 pages, of about
1000 words per page, but please feel free to adjust it to your needs
should you require to reduce/enlarge the document."
Best wishes,
Martin
