National Cancer Information Officer
Location: Leeds
University Grade 7 (£27,466 - £32,796 p.a.)
Dear allstat,
The National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) was established in April 2001 by the Department of Health to improve the quality, speed and integration of cancer clinical trials and, in turn, improve patient care. The National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) is being developed jointly by the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and the Department of Health (DH) for England and aims to bring together patient-level datasets and the expertise needed to provide high quality national cancer intelligence. For the first time in the UK, data from cancer registries will be brought together with other NHS data about cancer patients to form a single national dataset, providing tools to improve cancer services, increase patient choice and provide a valuable research resource.
The purpose of this post is to investigate the use of NCIN datasets to provide follow-up information for patients enrolled into clinical trials and to establish systems and governance arrangements for enabling access to these data.
This is a new exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to develop their clinical research knowledge and expertise on a national basis.
Educated to degree or equivalent level in a relevant subject area, you will have excellent analytical skills and the proven ability to manage relationships across a wide range of organisations with differing agendas. Knowledge and experience of clinical trial or cancer registry data and analysis is desirable, as is a familiarity with issues concerning the use of personal data for research.
The post will primarily be based at the headquarters of the NCRN Coordinating Centre which is hosted by the University of Leeds and situated on the University campus. You may also work at the Northern and Yorkshire Cancer Registry and Information Service (NYCRIS) in Leeds and will be required to travel within the UK. Funding for this post is being provided by the NCRN and represents a collaboration between the NCRN, NYCRIS and the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN).
The post is available immediately for a fixed term until the end of March 2010 (although further funding may be available).
