SEMINAR
Computational Optimization in Wireless Telecommunication Networks
Prof Dr Joerg Fliege
Wednesday, 13th February, 4pm
Room G.16 Theoretical Physics Wing
Abstract:
In today's global economy, communication is paramount.
Technology has evolved rapidly to enable users to access information via a variety of different services. In particular, mobile communication devices like phones, PDAs, laptops, etc. allow users to access information when they are out and about. However, customer retention is mainly based on the network quality. Indeed, the intent to switch carriers seems to be directly proportional to the number of network quality problems reported by the customer. Dropped and disconnected calls have the main impact on customer satisfaction, closely followed by interference, voice distortion, and no connection on first try. As such, optimizing the quality experienced by the user is of prime importance. This talk gives an overview over some challenging optimization problems occurring in the telecommunication industry, the mathematical models behind them, and corresponding computational techniques.
Following the talk, tea and biscuits will be available in Room 304
