MSc/PgDip in MEDICAL STATISTICS
University of Leicester, UK
Around 13 studentships are available for entry in Oct 2008 worth up to
£13,000 + UK/EU fees
Based within the Medical School at the University of Leicester, this well
established and successful one year full-time or two-three years part-time
course is intended mainly for students with a good honours degree of which
mathematics/statistics is the main subject, but applicants with other
backgrounds will be considered.
The orientation of the course is applied and vocational; it aims to
produce graduates who can immediately work as medical statisticians in
pharmaceutical companies, research units and the NHS or continue onto a
PhD. While all necessary theory is covered, the emphasis throughout is on
applying and adapting it to real-life circumstances. The analysis of real
data sets plays a large part in the course and the central role of
statistical software, including SAS, Stata, R and WinBUGS, is constantly
emphasised. Excellent computing facilities are available.
