MEETING TITLE: Measuring heterogeneity in meta-analysis
Whereas for quite some time now it has been discussed how heterogeneity in
meta-analysis can be detected by a suitable test or an appropriate
diagnostic device, such as the Galbraith plot, it is nowadays widely
accepted that this is a common feature in almost every meta-analysis and
what is more important is the size of the heterogeneity. This half-day event
brings together a number of researchers who made significant contributions
to the issue of quantification of heterogeneity from different perspectives:
Dr Julian Higgins, MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge, UK
"Measuring heterogeneity in meta-analysis"
Professor Martina Mittlböck, University of Vienna, Austria
"A simulation study assessing heterogeneity measures"
Dr Brad Biggerstaff, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, USA
"The exact distribution of Cochran's heterogeneity statistic in the one-way
normal model for meta-analysis"
Dr Wolfgang Viechtbauer, Maastricht, The Netherlands
"Exact confidence intervals for measures of heterogeneity in meta-analysis"
In addition:
Professor Andrew Grieve
(School of Medicine, King's College London)
&
Professor Dr. Heinz Holling
(Statistical methods in Psychology, Münster, Germany)
from medical/pharmaceutical and psychological research evaluation will
provide specific discussions of the talks.
