Dear Chris
I read this with interest as we are also looking at this area. Can you
please confirm at what stage you confirm the attandance back to the SLC.
Many thanks

Dear Liz,
We introduced online enrolment three years ago for new and continuing
students and it has significantly improved our enrolment process, which
is open year round. It has also had a huge impact in streamlining our
main arrivals at the start of the academic year.
New students must complete three steps;
1. Online Sign-up:(students confirm their enrolment details - personal,
contact, curriculum, further details, fee liability, declaration)
2. Fee payment: (also available online)
3. Identity Check: (this is a face to face meeting with the required
photographic evidence. It is at this point that we issue the student
with their College ID card. We set up different timeslots by department
and level, but as the process has become more streamlined - by giving
network access prior to arrival & using electronic SLC confirmation of
attendance - it has allowed us greater flexibility to offer a service on
demand).
Steps one and two are deliberately kept as separate procedures and can
be completed in either order. Step three can only be completed after
steps 1 & 2 have been completed.
Each step is recorded separately on our student system -the first two
being automatically updated by the actions. The ID check is manually
updated by the enrolment personnel once they are satisfied everything is
in order.
Continuing students only have to do steps 1 & 2 to complete enrolment -
we only see continuing students if they have a problem or need to see
us.
Hope this helps.
Chris

Subject: ID checks
Dear Colleagues,
I should be grateful to hear how ID checks are made at those HEIs which
undertake online registration for new students.
With best wishes,
