Learning on Screen 2008 - programme now available
18th and 19th March
National Science Learning Centre, University of York
Organised by the British Universities Film & Video Council this two
day conference includes the Learning on Screen Awards event on the
evening of 18th March.
The underlying theme of the meeting Sixty Years of Moving Pictures in
Higher Education will offer presentations from Dr Robin Moss
(formerly of the IBA), Sarah Mahurter (University of the Arts
London), Peter Phillips (University of Southampton) and Simon
Campbell Jones (former Editor BBC HORIZON).
Other sessions will offer demonstrations of BBC Motion Gallery,
online access to Independent Local Radio archives, use of streaming
media at the University of Portsmouth, practical documentary course
work, visualising sociology, use of television drama in medical
education, and using Web 2.0 in promoting multimedia in bioethics
education.
An open session will be run during Learning on Screen to encourage
participants to share views to respond to the Government’s public
consultation on the Gowers Review of copyright exceptions – the
outcome of which will have a bearing on use of formerly broadcast
content in distance education, format shifting and archive
preservation (see http://www.ipo.gov.uk/consult-
