You actually don't need X11 to use FSL, at least on Tiger.
The system-supplied Tcl/Tk supports native graphics, and you can
force the FSL apps to use it like this:
env FSLWISH=wish DISPLAY=nil fsl_gui &
(The first variables tells FSL not to use the FSL-supplied X11-only
Tcl/Tk, the second works around a somewhat misguided check for the X
display.)
If this works on Leopard, it might be a nice workaround for the X
server problems.
