I somehow doubt it was a salt. I havn't been following this thread
and perhaps missed your description, except that its shaped like a bird.
describe it for me, that is its size and how it would be used as a salt
The only anthropomorphic ceramic containers I know are mexican in which
salt was molded (it was not a container for serving salt at the table) -
and I know
of nothing like this in England, particular for the 16th century except
elaborate standing salts. Do I understand you know of other examples?
