Dear All
There are still a few places left on the Archives for London [AfL] visit to
The Freud Museum on Wednesday 16th January 2008 at 2.00pm Cost: £5.00
Number of places: 15.
The Freud Museum, at 20 Maresfield Gardens in Hampstead, was the home of
Sigmund Freud and his family when they escaped Nazi annexation of Austria
in 1938. It houses the possessions that Sigmund and Anna Freud brought with
them to London, including the library, their personal papers and photograph
albums. The archives contain essential documentation on the life and work
of Sigmund and Anna Freud and the history of psychoanalysis.
The museum also house contains Freud's remarkable collection of
antiquities: Egyptian; Greek; Roman and Oriental. Almost two thousand items
fill cabinets and are ranged on every surface. There are rows of ancient
figures on the desk where Freud wrote until the early hours of the morning.
The walls are lined with shelves containing Freud's large library of
reference books. Undoubtedly the most famous piece of furniture in all the
collection is Freud's psychoanalytic couch, on which all of Freud's
patients reclined.
Join the Archives & Research Director and celebrate the life and work of
Sigmund and Anna Freud. You will also get the chance to view William
Cobbing's exhibition/installation called Gradiva Project which celebrates
the centenary of Freud's work "Delusions and Dreams in Jensen's 'Gradiva' ".
