Does one want educational establishments to serve their country? What about
pacificist establishments that resist the hegemony of the labour (and other)
markets that does seem to be implied here, which enable _individuals_, and
in those individuals' _own terms_?
One wouldn't say of poetry, for example, that it should 'serve this
country'.
