Attosecond Imaging & Dynamics of Polyatomic Molecules
Two new Research Associate positions (one in experiment, one in
theory) are now available within the framework of a Canada-France
experimental-theoretical research program involving the Steacie
Institute for Molecular Sciences (National Research Council Canada)
and the Ecole Polytechnique (CNRS France). This program will address
attosecond time scale multi-electron dynamics in molecules. At the
NRC, several approaches to attosecond dynamics will be utilized
including time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, strong field
ionization and high-harmonic generation spectroscopy.
The theory component of this project is a symbiosis of quantum
chemistry and strong field physics. The goal is to use the
multi-electron methods of quantum chemistry in combination with the
approaches of strong-field physics for modeling time-dependent systems
in strong oscillating laser fields. The theoretical work will be
performed in very close collaboration with the experimental branch of
the project, including early access to the experimental data and the
ability to influence planning of experimental investigations. The
candidate is expected to have a strong background in ab initio
approaches to electronic structure calculations, and an aptitude for
software development. The capacity for independent work and critical
judgment are also essential.
Specific goals include:
i) Modeling of strong field ionization in multi-electron systems, both
for atoms and polyatomic molecules.
ii) Modeling of high-harmonic generation in polyatomic molecules.
iii) Modeling of laser-driven non-adiabatic multi-electron dynamics in
neutral molecules and molecular ions.
The appointment is for a period of 2 years with a possible extension
for 1 more year. For further information and inquires please contact
