medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
For those who haven't been keeping up, herewith two recent news accounts dealing with the ongoing campaign to give the Lindisfarne Gospels a home in the North East rather than in London:
_Sunderland Echo_ (7. January 2008):

_Newcastle Journal_ (9. January 2008):

Note that proposed new home for this national treasure (but which nation -- England or Northumbria?) is not Durham or even the little museum on Holy Island (can't have access trammeled by the tides, now can we?) but rather Sunderland, whose prior association with this object escapes me. Best,
John Dillon
