Be aware that the use or non-use of wrappers may be subject to local postal
regulations. Each national post office has rules on items in the mail.
What applies will depend on the place where the journal issue is actually
put in the mail. For instance, US publishers mailing in the USA will be
subject to USPS regulations, while UK publishers will be subject to Royal
Mail regulations if mailing in the UK. There are a lot of distribution
services that use a mixture of air freight plus mailing at the destination.
There may not be a "one size fits all" solution.

Dear all,
We have very few journals which come without wrappers (one in the
current pile of post) so can't tell if they get damaged more often. We
recyle our paper envelopes and use Polyprint www.polyprint.co.uk to
recycle our plastic wrappers.

Subject: Journals without wrappers?
Dear colleagues
Due to our own environmental concerns, and because some of our society
partners are requesting it, we're investigating the feasibility of
sending out some journals without wrappers. The cover of these
journals would instead contain a sticker with address information
which could be easily removed.
We understand that a number of journals, notably Nature and Science,
are already sent out this way in the US?
We would appreciate answers, on or off list, to the following
questions:
1. Do you receive journals without wrappers?
2. If so, do they arrive damaged?
3. Do you/how often do you have to raise claims to the publisher for
damaged copies?
Many thanks in advance.
