POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (6 Months Fixed-Term)
Salary: Grade 7 £27,466
Project: New insights into the deposit architecture and emplacement
mechanisms of block-and-ash flows using ground penetrating radar
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, high-calibre postdoctoral
research assistant (PDRA) to work on the above NERC-funded project
within the School of Physical and Geographical Sciences. You will
participate in fieldwork at Merapi volcano (Java, Indonesia), carrying
out field investigations of block-and-ash flow deposits and supporting
ground penetrating radar (GPR) data collection. The postdoctoral
research will entail analysis of sedimentological and granulometric
field data, petrographical and textural characterisation of rock samples
using the Central Electron Microscope Unit at Keele and support of GPR
data interpretation and presentation. You will work closely with Dr Ralf
Gertisser, Dr Nigel Cassidy and the project team and will be fully
involved in the dissemination of the project results in internationally
respected, peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate outlets.
You will have a first degree and a PhD (or near to completing a PhD) in
an Earth science discipline. Background and demonstrated expertise in
one or more of the following areas is desirable: fieldwork in active
volcanic areas, field analysis of block-and-ash flow deposits and ground
penetrating radar data collection, processing and interpretation.
