James Albert Ukawsaw Gronniosaw was captured into slavery when he was a
child. Many years later, when he was living in England, he recorded his
life story. His memories of Africa, New York, London, Colchester and
Norwich were published in 1774. The book is believed to be the first
slave narrative to be published in Britain.
Thank you very much for your time,
