Dear Lilith and Judy
I've told my sister in law about the list and hope that she or someone
else from her organisation can get in touch with some more details.
Probably the best place to get more info is from the organisation she
works for, Bizchut and here is the link:
http://www.bizchut.org.il/eng/
I was interested by the bit in the original article which mentioned that
the services mentioned were funded by the Jewish National Fund (JNF).
Growing up in a left wing, Zionist household in North London in the 1970s
having a blue and white JNF collecting tin was expected for my parents'
social network. There is a strong cultural imperative towards charitable
giving in Judaism, but I dont see why the ideological position of the
recipients has to always be conservative and in fact oppressive towards
already disadvantaged groups.
I am sending a copy of this message to Suzanne (poor thing!). I think
that her organisation are the best people to respond to the original
article, but maybe there are people on this list who might like to put
together a response from a disability studies perspective.
Deborah
