Job: Scientific Liaison and Support Coordinator
Full Time (PhD in physical sciences)
Sense About Science is a charitable trust to promote good science and
evidence for the public. Working with nearly 3000 supporting scientists,
from Nobel laureates to postdocs, we respond to the misrepresentation of
science and scientific evidence on issues that matter to society. We
handle science-related questions from any social group; and develop
relationships, publications and initiatives to challenge misconceptions.
We have a vacancy coming up for a Scientific Liaison and Support
Coordinator. The chief responsibility is for managing ongoing
relationships with our supporting scientists, who contribute their time
and expertise freely, and with other supporters who offer practical help.
You will engage them in meeting the demands of our daily responsive work
and in developing longer term projects.
You will also be:
Writing newsletters, articles and reports;
Coordinating specialist working groups;
Giving talks and publicising our projects;
Organising our annual lecture and other events for supporters;
Managing the database;
Handling the individual donor scheme;
Liaising with our supporter network to identify new problems and
prospects.
It’s often busy and no two days are ever the same. You need to be able to
plan well but adapt quickly. As well as a passion for science, good team
spirit and a liking of responsibility, you will need:
• A PhD in physical sciences
• An appetite for science news, public debate and current affairs
• Confidence
• Tact
• Very good IT skills or aptitude
Starting salary c.23k. Holiday reasonably generous.
Initial 2 year contract, pref. from Jan 2007.
Central London location
Working environment: you’ll be physically cosy but mentally stretched.
