Brief Description:
This challenging role will allow you to develop and deliver the Science
Museum's innovative adult-target events, on-line and broadcast content for
the Dana Centre. You will contribute strongly to the important challenge
of engaging the target audience in genuine dialogue about contemporary
science issues.
The role is available on a four-month secondment.

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. JOB DETAILS
Job Title: Programmes Developer, Dana Centre
Annual salary: £17,909 - £24,519 + £1,000 RWA
Reports to: Programme Co-ordinator, Dana Centre
2. JOB PURPOSE
To develop and deliver the innovative adult-target events, on-line and
broadcast content for the Dana Centre that will engage the target audience
in genuine dialogue about contemporary science issues.
3. DIMENSIONS
Development of circa 30 events per year for specific target
audiences
Delivery of circa 40 events per year specific target audiences
Supervision of external contractors, placement students and
Explainers delivering events
Responsibility for ensuring smooth running of evening events in
the Dana Centre
4. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Evidence of advanced inter-personal and communication skills
Evidence of advanced verbal communication and presentation skills
Evidence of good research skills
Evidence of good writing skills
Knowledge and understanding of contemporary science, technology
and medicine issues and associated policy issues
Flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic
Be able to prioritise numerous different tasks and time manage
effectively
Be able to communicate effectively and clearly to people of all
levels of seniority
Experience of conference and/or event development and organisation
an advantage but not essential
5. KEY RESULT AREAS
Research contemporary science, technology and medicine issues and
identify areas with ethical, moral, political, social or religious debate
that would appeal to the Dana Centre target audience.
Develop and deliver innovative and informal events for specific
target audiences in the Dana Centre that promote debate and discussion.
Develop and deliver specific online and broadcast content for
adults that are appealing, challenging and provocative for the intended
audience.
Assist in preparation of marketing and press material for the Dana
Centre and the events programme.
Monitor other innovative science dialogue activities in the UK
including events, performances and broadcast outputs to establish good
practice that could be adopted by the Dana Centre.
Assist with the planning of programmes of Dana Centre events so as
to ensure efficient operation and efficient use of the staff and resources.
6. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Dana Centre Audience Advocate - to plan and conduct evaluation of
events
Press and Marketing teams to ensure successful promotion of
events
Science Museum Curators to arrange use of objects in events
External speakers, scientists, performers and curators to
contribute to events
Science Museum Explainers to contribute to and help develop
events
Science Museum Antenna team to contribute to and help develop
events
Wellcome Wolfson Building technicians - to ensure smooth running
of events
Wellcome Wolfson Building Manager to ensure smooth running of
events
British Association for Advancement of Science and European Dana
Alliance for the Brain to contribute to and help develop events
7. SCOPE FOR IMPACT
Broadening of Science Museum audience
Delivery of Dana Centre objectives and vision
Helping to build relationships between the Science Museum and
influential individuals and organisations e.g. Wellcome Trust, British
Association for Advancement of Science, European Dana Alliance for the
Brain, etc.
Help to build the Museums reputation for developing bold and
innovative events
Promotion of Museum via online and broadcast content
Helping to build relationships with leading scientists,
politicians, broadcasters
