UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
THE BODY AND SOCIAL POLICY
A one day conference
15th January 2008
Weetwood Hall
University of Leeds
Keynote Address
Prof Julia Twigg
Plenary Paper
Prof Chris Shilling
The body has become a prominent concept within sociology and is becoming a
major feature of analysis for those investigating contemporary issues of
social exclusion, welfare and policy.
This One Day conference aims to foster dialogue between sociological
theory and social policy through exploring contemporary debates around
issues such as age and ageing, care and care-giving, disability, health
and well-being, social capital and social exclusion.
We welcome abstracts from researchers working within and across the
disciplines of social policy and sociology who wish to contribute to this
exciting area of study.
Presentations should aim to be 20 minutes in length and will be organised
into thematic streams.
Abstract deadline:
30th November 2007
(The final programme of papers will be announced 10th December)
Registration Fee:
£40 (BSA/SPA members)
£50 (non-members)
