Perhaps the loss to Wallingford's hostelries was the greater....;-)

I and my colleague were once banned from all the pubs in
Wallingford....which was actually no great loss....

Casanova
Chairman Mao
Jorge Luis Borges
Philip Larkin
Lao Tze
Konstantinova Krupskaya

etc etc - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_librarians

And if we allow fiction:

Batgirl
Giles from Buffy
Jorge (Name of the Rose)
The Librarian (Snowcrash)

and many many more

Not much CILIP though, but we save the world - a lot.

I have seen publishers' reps attending a conference scurry in terror
from a disco full of baying librarians whirling their handbags to 'Hi Ho
Silver Lining', and a former library which I worked in, to be nameless,
was banned from a local hotel following a wildly excessive Xmas lunch.
