We are currently reviewing reading list processing at Durham University
Library and would like to find out about practices elsewhere.
We are particularly interested in how other institutions manage the
following:
- Requesting lists from academic staff. Do you ask for whole lists or
just changes for the new year? Is this done electronically or
paper-based? When is your deadline for submissions?
- Staffing. Do you have a dedicated unit to deal with reading lists? Do
staff deal with all lists or specific departments?
- Activities. Do you combine other elements of your service with reading
list processing? E.g. scanning as part of the CLA licence.
- Orders. Do you use reading lists as the primary method of ordering
course materials? Do you have a model you would be willing to share? Do
you inform academic staff how long it can take to obtain resources?
- Timing. Do you use milestones to check your progress with received
lists? How do you deal with the inevitable influx of lists towards the
end of the summer?
- Any other issues you feel impact on your ability to process reading
lists in an efficient and timely fashion.
Please reply to the list or directly to [log in to unmask] and we
will collate responses. We would appreciate comments by 21 December
2007.
Many thanks
