Dear Berry
I have stated many times that whoever is responsible for the National Curriculum for Art and Design
nedds to be taken out and shot... no. sorry, tortured slowly, because that is what they continue to
do to the prsent generation of teachers and students alike. The present regime is of equal tyrany
to the Maoist Cultural Revolution. The good news is that the Chinese have shown great resilience
and creativity has not been totally supressed. Must we simply hope that our children will surive?

Hello,
Can anyone recommend some reading material (for teachers) to rescue my 10-yr-old son from the
tyranny of tracing in school? He'd prefer to draw his own version of whatever they're studying, but
his teachers claim tracing a printed picture is better. "Better" presumably means quicker or more
efficient. He is highly skilled and draws quickly, although some teachers seem disturbed by the
intensity of concentration involved.
I used to be amused by the strange attitude to Art in schools but my children are being taught to
regard drawing as a chore. My complaints don't achieve much beyond a National Curriculum
smokescreen.......
