Lorrain,
Adrian Lister is your man on the elephant/mammoth ids - find him at [log in to unmask]
BTW there was mammoth bone identified at BA Brean Down - though part of my can't help wonder if
the rib belonged to whale - there was other evidence for cetacea - just a thought.

Hello
I have posted a couple of photos on the Bones Commons website (zooarch attachment section) of some
elephant bones that have recently been recovered from a coastal site in Somerset. I haven't seen the
bones but have been asked to determine what skeletal elements are represented from these photos. Any
ideas? I think the bones are a distal radius (image 1), proximal radius and distal humerus (image 2)
but I'm not too familiar with elephant anatomy so any help gratefully received.
regards
Lorrain Higbee
