Dear Colleagues,
I thought the following information about three neuroscience PhD programs in
Berlin might be of interest to you. Neuroimagers are welcome in all three
programs. I would be very grateful if you could forward this e-mail to your
colleagues and students.
Thank you very much!

Three exciting neuroscience graduate programs in Berlin!
-> Medical Neurosciences <http://www.medical-neurosciences.de/> (MSc,
PhD, MD/PhD)...
...focuses on translational research. The main objective is to bridge
the gap between successes at the bench and - currently - less than
satisfactory treatment at the bedside. Our rigorous and comprehensive
teaching program provides a structured education in basic neuroscience
to medical students and trains students of the life sciences in medical
topics and approaches concerning the central and peripheral nervous
system. Besides in-depth theoretical training, the MSc program
emphasizes practical lab experience, preparing graduates for continued
research in the PhD program.
Application deadline: 15 January 2008

-> Computational Neuroscience
<http://www.bccn-berlin.de/graduate_programs/> (MSc, PhD)...
...is an interdisciplinary research field. Experimentalists and
theoreticians trained in neuroscience, biology, medicine, physics,
mathematics, or computer science combine experiments, data analysis and
modeling to understand the brain. The aim of our master program is to
teach students with different backgrounds, who have a sound knowledge in
mathematics and an interest in neuroscience, in all relevant disciplines
of the field. Computational Neuroscience is a research oriented program
with a strong emphasis on combining experimental and theoretical
approaches. It thus ideally prepares students to follow their own
scientific interests when starting a PhD in the field. The PhD program
offers scholarships for which interested students can apply.
Application deadline: 15 March 2008

-> Berlin School of Mind and Brain <http://www.mind-and-brain.de/> (PhD)...
...is an international research school and offers an interdisciplinary
three-year doctoral program. Teaching covers all fields relevant to
mind/brain-related research. The focus is on the interface of
traditional humanities and behavioral sciences (philosophy, social
sciences, linguistics, behavioral and cognitive psychology) with
neurosciences (neurophysiology, psychiatry, computational neuroscience,
neurobiology). Main research topics are 'conscious and unconscious
perception', 'decision-making', 'language', 'brain plasticity and
lifespan ontogeny' and 'mental disorders and brain dysfunction'.
Students will be supervised by two professors, one from the 'mind
sciences' and one from the 'brain sciences'. The PhD program offers
scholarships for which interested students can apply.
