Increased involvement with a wide range of new and developing
services, software and other technologies presents interesting
challenges for copyright and other related rights. Profound issues and
questions which are likely to arise include:
- Who owns the rights in works that are a result of collective
collaboration?
- Can one person economically benefit from the work to which they
have collaborated?
- Can rights be given up, and if so how?
- Do IP rights exist in a virtual world and, if so, who owns them?
A new JISC funded project - Web2Rights (www.web2rights.org.uk) aims
to develop an IP toolkit which can support project engagement with Web2.
0. Whilst the key audience served are the projects funded under JISC's
Users and Innovation Programme, the resources which will be developed
will have a much broader applicability in their current form as well as
for possible repurposing.
To ensure that we suitably scope the landscape and ensure that we can
create relevant resources and training tools, we are inviting a range
of projects across the Higher and Further education sectors, as well as
the cultural heritage communities to complete an online information
gathering survey: http://www.ssb.plymouth.ac.uk/surveys/WEb2Rights/
The suvery should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete and will
help us enormously
For more information about this project, please visit the project
website (which has a blog and rss feed) or you can contact me off
list.
With many thanks
