We are currently drafting an image management policy document but are
aware that it will ultimately need to take in wider (Culture & Leisure)
departmental requirements if any software tools are to get central
funding. Our currently preferred options are to focus on metadata
embedded in the images with at least the museum's accession number as
one of the key elements in the data. We are actively investigating the
Fotoware products (www.fotoware.com) and have successfully exported
object data from our Modes system and embedded it into images using
their Fotostation Pro product. We are hoping to trial their server side
indexing and retrieval products in the near future, to see if they give
us the overlap we need between museum and other IM system users.
If I recall correctly, their Index Manager software may be able to
accept SQL calls from other systems, so perhaps that might be worth
investigation?

Subject: Image database linked to a CMS
Dear All,
Having only had one response to my email below, can I take it nobody is
using an image database? Surely not?

We at the Government Art Collection would like to investigate an image
database that can be linked to an SQL collections management system, and
have some sort of permanently live link for data retrieval, can anyone
recommend such a system? We are running the Argus CMS which used SQL.
