Apologies for cross-posting:
The Political Geography Research Group is seeking convenors and sessions
for the 2008 RGS-IBG Annual Conference in London (27-29 August 2008 -
www.rgs.org/ac2008).
1) We are seeking convenors for the following sessions proposed at our 2007
AGM:
- The AGM proposed a session on: 'The public engagements of political
geography’, or a related theme that connects to the main conference theme
of ‘Geographies that matter’.
- The AGM also suggested a session on 'American Election 2008: the American
Empire and the Bush legacy'.
- We also wish to sponsor a session on 'The politics of indigenous
rights' to further develop productive session of the same name at the 2007
conference.
- We are also interested in supporting a session on ‘The Political
geographies of health and the Environment’.
These themes will be given priority for our sponsorship; they will also be
considered for any PolGRG bid for study group guests. We invite any
potential convenors for these sessions to contact David Atkinson
([log in to unmask]) by December 14th 2007.
2) We also have space to sponsor other sessions (or co-sponsor sessions)
relating to the conference theme of ‘Geographies that Matter’ or to other
areas of contemporary political geography.
Such proposals should forward a title and session outline of circa 300-400
words. They should include the name(s) and affiliation(s) of convenor(s).
They should also provide a full list of authors with their titles,
affiliations and, if possible, abstracts.
Sessions are 1 hour 40 minutes long and can consist of various formats
within these parameters. Please indicate the number of sessions requested
and the proposed format. Also, please inform us if you have requested
sponsorship from another research group.
Proposals should be emailed to: David Atkinson ([log in to unmask])
by FRIDAY 1st FEBRUARY 2008. The PolGRG committee will then select the
sessions we will sponsor / co-sponsor. Any sessions not sponsored by the
PolGRG may still be submitted as independent sessions to the conference
(deadline: 22nd February 2008)
All best wishes
David Atkinson
