Only in the short term I hope! Scott Adams (Dilbert comic writer) has a
nice
example of temporary dimwittedness - he took an electronic gadget into a
repair shop for fixing only for the person behind the till to open it up
and
swap the battery around. He (Scott) pointed out that he'd managed to
dress
and feed himself and operate a complicated vehicle (car) to get there
but he,
like everyone, occasionally manages to slip in and out of dimness.
I seem to remember struggling myself to sign up to the ABSW mailing list
a
while back and you were kind enough to help me in my moment of
gormlessness :-)
Also, given everyone's tendency not to delete spare text from the end of
their
emails who bothers to scroll to the end?
On other matters - today there is an interview in today's London Metro
with
Michio Kaku who has a new series out, starting tonight on BBC4, 9pm -
Visions
of the Future.
In the interview he says "Some scientists say: 'You're a research
theorist, you
shouldn't be talking to the ignorant', but where does our budget come
from?
From taxes, from the public. ... We don't have an automatic pay cheque
now.
We have to engage the public and I enjoy that."
At the end of the interview Metro adds... "Is popularising science a
doomed
cause? Find out at www.metro.co.uk" (I suspect they mean 'argue about
it' rather
than there actually being an answer).
