Hi Sharon sounds like this is a safety and/or occupational hygiene
question, and you are piggy in the middle.
If the person who says they are "safe" is safety trained I feel they ought
to be able to address the employees concerns. The employees perceive a
higher level of risk (and/or want their overalls washed). For OH/you is
there a REAL health risk?? Are large amounts of oil splashing onto clothing
and getting through to their skin?? Does the skin health surveillance show
there are problems?
The employees may wish to understand more the risk assessments that should
have been done by the Company under the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
regs, or under the COSHH regs. Presumably you have seen the safety data
sheet for the Ecocool Sep. IE let the company provide evidence it is "safe".
Personally I would stear away from the washing question if you can and
stick to what health concerns they have.
Literature: try asking HSE publications what Metal working documents they
have these days, I know they did have several some years ago egEH62
Hope this helps Sue
