Initial Call for Papers
The University of Westminster is preparing to hold its first Postgraduate Conference on Postcolonial Studies. In addition to providing an opportunity for doctoral students to share current research in the field, this conference aims to foster and promote a platform for students to gain experience and exposure in presenting papers.
In line with the general aims of this comparative project, we welcome papers (lasting 20 minutes) from Anglophone, Francophone and Hispanic Postcolonial Studies. The theme that we aim to highlight at this inaugural conference is 'Methods in Postcolonial Studies'. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Methodologies e.g. Marxism, Feminism, Modernism etc.
· Linguistic issues
· New ways of using History and Cultural Studies in Postcolonial Studies
· Tradition and innovation in examining postcolonial cultures
· Effects of postcolonial culture on the original countries and the empires e.g. migrant and diasporic literatures
· Genres: theatre, fiction, poetry, film, art, autobiography etc.
· Reception of postcolonial literatures
Abstracts of no longer than 250 words should be submitted as MS Word attachment to: Bobby Flora-Bhambra, University of Westminster, Department of English and Linguistics ([log in to unmask]) and Laurence Randall, Department of Modern Languages ([log in to unmask]) by January 14th, 2008.
The selection of papers will be made by February 4th, 2008.
Reflecting our commitment to research and encouraging discourse in the field of Postcolonial Studies a plenary panel of leading academics in Anglophone, Francophone and Hispanic Studies is also proposed.
