The Institute of Communications Studies at the University of Leeds will be holding its Second Jay Blumler Annual Lecture at 5pm on Wednesday 5 December. The venue is the Clothworkers' Centenary Concert Hall at the University of Leeds. All are welcome and attendance is free.
The lecture, entitled When the Press Fails: Political Power and the News Media from Iraq to Katrina will be given by Lance Bennett, Professor of Political Science and Ruddick C. Lawrence Professor of Communication at the University of Washington, where he also directs the Centre for Communication and Civic Engagement (www.engagedcitizen.org <http://www.engagedcitizen.org/> ). This will be followed by a drinks reception.
Professor Jay Blumler, who will be be in attendance at the lecture, is one of the world's leading scholars of political communications and was founder of the internationally-famous Centre for Television Studies at Leeds University, out of which came the Institute of Communications Studies.
