However, the 1930s revival of the Loch Ness Monster story did coincide with
Hollywood's early monster films such as the original version of the Lost
World and of course King Kong, both of which are based on the idea of
dinosaurs still existing in remote parts of the world. I'm sure, just as
today, cinema then was able to influence the ideas of the general population
far more than the scientific or academic community. This effect was repeated
in the 1950s when the peak in UFO sightings coincided with Hollywood's big
'aliens and flyer saucers' phase.

The Loch Ness Monster hit the public imagination in the 1930's when there
were a series of sightings reported in the papers. A little later then
dinosaurs unfortunetly..........

I've always wondered if sightings of the Loch Ness ever coincided with the
rise of dinosaurs in the public's imagination.

Hello all,
Dinosaurs were so named in 1842 and caught the public's imagination soon
after. Can anyone put a date on the first appearance of dinosaurs in the
context of children's books, toys etc with maybe an example?
thanks
