Agree! It hits all the right points, and it's good'n concise.
Well done and thanx to all who were involved.

Subject: urgent support needed for SUG
Thanks to those who have contributed to the editing of the following
statement. It has now been sent to SUG and they have agreed with the
statement as it stands (they think it is "brilliant"). I therefore
propose
that the statement goes through no further edits (unless you spot a typo
or
factual inaccuracy). Instead, CPUK should now decide whether it wishes
to
endorse it.
If you object to this statement being made on behalf of the network,
please
email either the list (to do so publically) or to me personally on
[log in to unmask] (to do so privately). The deadline for this is
Monday
26th at 9am (GMT). Please do not email the list if you agree with the
statement (to avoid clogging up everyone's inboxes - this assumes
[wishfully] most of you will agree with the statement!!)
here is what will now happen:
1) If no one objects, I will send this as seen.
2) If less than 50% of the list membership objects, I will add a
footnote to
clarify the statement was made on behalf of a majority of the network.
3) If more than 50% of the list members objects, I will take off any
reference to the CPUK and issue it as a statement on behalf of the
'undersigned' and invite list members to sign up to the statement if
they
wish.
The statement will be issued to SUG for them to use if and when and how
they
chose. I propose to do this to try to ensure that SUG uses our network
to
promote, protect and support it rather than we use SUG to promote us
(i.e.,
the danger of using SUG for our own 'product placement')
Here is the statement:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CPUK SUG statement
"The Community Psychology UK Network (CPUK) supports the work of the
Seroxat
& SSRI User Group (SUG) in their efforts to protect public health from
any
inadvertent harm caused by the pharmaceutical industry and the medical
and
allied professions. CPUK support SUG's aims to ensure UK health
regulatory
bodies have sufficient remit, responsibility and resource to guarantee
public health and to ensure that those harmed by the products of
psychopharmacy are given the support they need to seek justice and get
well."
Statement from The Community Psychology UK Network (CPUK), November 2007
CPUK is a broad coalition of over 150 professionals and
paraprofessionals
that includes, among others, psychiatrists, psychologists, users of
psychological services and members of the public. CPUK is committed to
work
that promotes health and well-being through securing social justice for
those marginalised by society's economic, social and political
institutions.
