Gary,
We use snapshot for the automatic insertion of records into Blackboard from our student records systems. Using snapshot means you can (fairly) easily automate what you're currently doing via the admin panel commands. That is, you can have a script extract new account/enrolment information and then use snapshot to dump it into Blackboard.
It was a bit of faff sorting out all the various parameters required to snapshot, but I can let you know what we did to get it all working. Oh, and the data source key . . . that was fun (again, I can explain lessons learnt, etc.)
We didn't use Blackboard Consulting, but rather relied on questions/problems answered via 'Behind the Blackboard'

Subject: Planning Snapshot Installation
At Staffordshire University, we are are in the early stages of looking at getting Snapshot installed.
I would be grateful therefore to learn of any relevant experiences. Were there any surpises good or bad? What should we be wary of?
For completeness, our Student records systems pumps out data daily which is converted into batch files that are used for students account creation and enrolment onto Blackboard via the relevant Admin panel commands. What sorts of changes are we likely to have to make to this approach to allow for the use of Snapshot?
We are looking at using Blackboard Consulting to undertake the work. Has anyone experience of using them for this and what sort of timescale, costs, etc did this work entail.
All replies treated in confidence (assuming of course you reply to me privately!
