Last minute registration is still possible for the Statistics User Forum
conference on statistics on income, earnings and wealth - details below.
Since the first announcement of this conference the chair of the new
Statistics Board, Sir Michael Scholar, has agreed to open proceedings
with a keynote speech on the new independent official statistical
system.
____
Date: Thursday, 15 November 2007 (10am-5pm, followed by reception)
Venue: Royal Society, 6 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AG
The topic is "Statistics on income, earnings and wealth. Where do they
come from and why do we need them?"
Reliable and accurate statistical information on earnings, income and
wealth form an important part of the knowledge we have about the
operation of the economy and as indicators of economic well being. But
where does this information come from, how should we use it and what are
the problems that users face when attempting to understand these data?
What can be done to improve our knowledge about earnings, income and
wealth?
This conference aims to bring together the producers of statistical
information on income, earnings and wealth with users (and potential
users) to explore the wide variety of such data that now exist, to
understand better the strengths and weaknesses associated with various
sources of information and to portray some of the more interesting uses
that have been made of these data for both research and policy purposes.
