Well, NASA
(http://www.nasawatch.com/archives/2007/11/virtual_nasa.html)
and the University of Illinois
(http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16709807)
as well as a few other interesting places
(http://www.marinetta.org/)
are using Second Life.
What Second Life could do that Facebook couldn't
is provide an online, virtual environment for
something like a conference or symposium.
I'm still getting used to navigating in the
environment (much less building spaces), but it
seems like a really useful tool for certain kinds
of things.
