Hi,
GCC isn't actually necessary, the message you see on the screen
during the sourcing of the fsl.sh file is just a warning and can
safely be ignored.
However, we have fixed the script in the current development version,
to prevent this warning. The next release should include this change.
As for installing GCC, you can use the 'Add/Remove Software' GUI to
add the 'Development Tools'. They aren't included in the VM for
reasons of space, as they would add significantly to the size of the
download.
