UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD

DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
REFUGEE STUDIES CENTRE

Digital Repository Software Developer

Grade 7: Salary £26,666 – £32,796 p.a.

Forced Migration Online (FMO, http://www.forcedmigration.org/), which
hosts a freely available web-based portal on the subject of forced
migration produced by the Refugee Studies Centre (Department of
International Development, University of Oxford), seeks an experienced
and competent software developer to develop an open access repository as
part of its JISC-funded OARS project (http://oars.forcedmigration.org).
The position is full-time for 9 months.

The work falls into two main areas: developing a new repository and
associated interfaces for FMO using the open source Fedora repository
development platform (http://www.fedora-commons.org/); and developing a
set of migration tools for uploading content from the existing FMO
repositories to the new one.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent, a good understanding of
web technologies and services, and experience in the development of
complex software systems, including development experience of open
source SQL databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL. Experience of open
source development, especially of using the Fedora repository
development platform, would be a distinct advantage.

Further particulars may be obtained from the DoID website:
http://www.qeh.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/vac_sd151007 and from the
Administrator, Department of International Development, 3 Mansfield
Road, Oxford, OX1 3TB (tel: (01865) 281805, email:
[log in to unmask]), to whom applications should be made,
enclosing a letter addressing the selection criteria, a curriculum
vitae, and the names of two referees. There is no application form. The
closing date for applications is noon on Friday 9th November 2007.
