Hi Richard
I don't have a suitable macro, but I would like you to consider the
following technique for astrological modelling.
The only scientifically valid reason for astrology to have any
statistically significant effect on survival is the gravitational pull
of the stars and planets at the moment of the patient's birth.
Gravitational pull follows an inverse square law with respect to
distance, so the weight of the midwife, and his/her position in the room
at the moment of the patient's birth dwarfs any possible effect from all
the stars and planets put together.
When studying astrological effects therefore, you should concentrate on
data regarding the midwife, not the date of birth.
Hope this is of use, as you do not really need a date conversion macro.
Of course if you are interested in the effect of seasonality due to
prevailing weather conditions, then date of birth may be important. It
would be wrong to attribute this effect to astrology.
Regards
Stephen

Subject: Astrological star signs.......
I know this is far fetched, but I would like to see if a patient's
astrological star sign is in anyway associated with survival......
Does anyone have a macro for SPSS / Excel / SAS / Anything else - that
will convert a date of birth to the appropriate astrological star
sign.... I could of course do it by hand, but 600 date of births will
take me a long time!
Thanks,
