Ha, well there is that.
As a judge of local poetry contests for the newspaper here I have seen
worse, it's true. Usually what I call 'mother & god soft porn'. What's
fascinating is that we're back to that question of sincerity. Often
these verses are sincere, but what the writers dont know is that rather
than writing from their heart & experience they are instead writing
within the conventions (a concept they dont know either) of children's
verse & C&W (the worst kind). Because that's all the 'poetry' they have
ever experienced....
