I agree that neither is innately pejorative - though I have heard both
given with face-distorting sneers - but they do seem opposed, if not
contradictory. It may sound like I'm quibbling, but it seems that the
question of where poetry fits between them is an important one. Perhaps
some synthesis not yet in the lexicon?
