I'd agree with the other responses in that I would do the test but document
the visual inspection on the ear canal. I'd ask them to visit their GP for
further advice, and then come back for a repeat test once the canal was
clear.
I wouldn't suggest syringing as I don't have the evidence it works, and I'd
be concerned of the associated risks with it. It may be that some ear-drops
or warm olive oil applied at night, may help. Of course if anyone has
evidence of the benefits of syringing please let me know, either on or off
the list.
